Customized content alerts with My Notifications

By AACT on January 14, 2025

The AACT team is excited to launch a new web feature allowing AACT members to customize and personalize content alerts on teachchemistry.org, through the addition of the newly created ‘My Notifications’ feature.

My Notifications is a new web upgrade on teachchemistry.org, and this dynamic update allows AACT members to receive content alerts on teachchemistry.org based on a member’s custom preferences for classroom resources, favorites, webinars, as well as groups and discussions. Preferences can be created on the ‘My Notifications’ settings page for classroom resources through a variety of filters, namely ‘Followed Searches’. Filters are available on a topical basis, and can be customized to suit grade levels and resource types, which can then be saved as a preference in order to create alerts, for which members will receive notifications.

Explore your notification options now, or read on to learn more about how to use this new feature.

A new look

AACT members, when logged in, will now see a flask icon next to their displayed name on teachchemistry.org.

The expanded menu features ‘My Notifications’, which will log a number corresponding to the number of unread notifications a member has received. Figure A displays an instance where a member has no new notifications, and Figures B and C are displays when a member has received new notifications.

‘My Notifications’ page

The new ‘My Notifications’ page for members will display read and unread notifications for a member, based on saved user preferences. Members can choose to be alerted via a notification on teachchemistry.org, when logged in, for new and updated resources, favorites, webinars, as well as groups and discussions where a member is a participant.

The alerts can be wholly customized based on user preferences and set up from the newly launched ‘My Notifications Settings’ page. If you are an AACT member, you can visit the link below to customize your notifications settings and begin using this new feature today.

How to Set Up a Followed Search

From the ‘My Notifications Settings’ page, a member may set up a new Followed Search by clicking on ‘New Followed Search’.

This should take users to the ‘Followed Search Settings’ page, from where members have the ability to set up alerts for resources based on grade level, topics and subtopics, AP/IB chemistry, as well as resource type. Once a 'Followed Search' is saved, members are expected to receive a notification every time a resource meeting those criteria is created or updated with new information.
